CTS Launches Low-Profile OCXO for LTE Base Stations

About the Product

CTS has introduced a high-stability, 10-MHz oven controlled, crystal oscillator (OCXO) that meets the stringent performance requirements of next generation Long Term Evolution (LTE) cellular base stations. The Model 197 is a low-profile, sinewave output OCXO that uses a double-oven configuration to achieve excellent stability and spectral purity complying with 3GPP requirements within a compact package. The oscillator maintains 1-µs holdover stability for an 8-hour period and ±10°C temperature variations. Model 197 offers better than 1.0 ppb (peak-peak) stability over the industrial temperature range of -40 to +85°C with low daily aging rates of less than 0.2 ppb/day. Typical phase noise is -120 dBc/Hz offset 10 Hz from the carrier, -145 dBc/Hz offset 1 kHz from the carrier, and -150 dBc/Hz offset 100 kHz from the carrier. Harmonics are -30 dBc maximum with maximum spurious levels of -70 dBc.

The oscillator delivers sinewave outputs with typical output power of +7 dBm into a 50-Ω load. Power consumption is 2.0 W maximum and typically 1.5 W when operating from a voltage supply of 4.75 to 5.25 V dc. Maximum turn-on power is 5 W. The stable 10-MHz source is housed in an industry standard 36 x 27 x 13 mm hermetic enclosure.

The model 197 OCXO is a miniature, low-cost alternative to bulky rubidium clocks for applications requiring excellent frequency stability and precise timing. In addition to LTE base stations, the OCXO is well suited for use in other communications systems and high-performance test-and-measurement equipment.
